Stolen Vehicle Mode

OVERVIEW

Vehicle theft is more common than many realize, and in some cases, stolen cars are never recovered, with customers sometimes hung out to dry by the insurance companies and banks. Ikon Technologies offers a stolen vehicle recovery service that works with law enforcement to help locate stolen vehicles. Users must activate this mode to begin the recovery process. If the vehicle can't be recovered due to Ikon's fault, the customer is eligible for a $10,000 payout to purchase a new vehicle from the same dealership. Designing a reliable, effective feature for this service is critical, as there’s a lot at stake.

RESEARCH

Through our research we learned that vehicle owners use primarily negative words to describe their ownership experience. Stress, worry, expensive, chore, trended highly in our interviews. These feelings were only magnified when we asked about vehicle theft. With this, we wanted to be sure to provide a process that not only successfully recovered the vehicle but made the ordeal less stressful.

We also learned that customers who buy extra services like this from a dealer many times forget about it when the time comes to use it so we wanted to do what we could to make sure this wasn't the case.

Through our competitive research we learned that in all cases, the process of reporting, tracking, and sharing a vehicle location for the puposes of a theft was cumbersome and time consuming - not good when you're up against the clock.

THE SOLUTION

Stolen Vehicle Mode can be accessed from several points in the app. Before enabling it, we provide the user with an Overview of the process to set their expectations and put their mind at ease. Continuing, users are required to provide the Contact information for the primary officer in the case. The tracking information will be shared to the provided email and phone number. Before we Enable the mode and share the information, we confirm with the user. Once active, the user can see a Timeline for the location sharing and share the information with more parties if needed. On the same page, the user can switch tabs to see a Checklist of other steps they should take when their vehicle is stolen.

OUTCOME

Connect is in a pre-release state but we have received feedback through testing from drivers and dealers alike that the process is informative and simple. Although we never want to see our customers' vehicles stolen, we hope that this work makes the experience a little less stressful.
